Annual Fire Alarm Inspections

Fire Alarm Requirements
For 2023, the city of Steamboat Springs will replace current code with more recent fire codes, IFC 2018 and NFPA 72 2016. These codebooks require annual inspections of commercial fire alarm systems at least once a year, conforming to specifications set forth in NFPA 72. This includes testing of all devices connected to the fire alarm system, panel functionality and battery tesing, and confirmation of communication with the Central Station monitoring company.
Thayer Enterprises can provide for fire alarm system testing and fire extinguisher inspections and service, including internal service and 12 year hydro-tests. Contact us and we will be glad to come by and give you a free quote.
Fire Alarm Facts
Almost all households in the U.S. have at least one smoke alarm, yet in 2003-2006, smoke alarms were present in only two-thirds (69%) of all reported home fires and operated in just under half (47%) of the reported home fires. (Homes includes one- and two-family homes, apartments, and manufactured housing.) 40% of all home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms, while 23% resulted from homes in which smoke alarms were present but did not operate. The death rate per 100 reported fires was twice as high in homes without a working smoke alarm as it was in home fires with this protection. Hardwired smoke alarms are more reliable than those powered solely by batteries. (Abstract from NFPA report by Marty Ahrens, Sept 2009)
